Into The Archive: The Woven Leather Lounge

A dip into the Smilow Archive. The first of many trips. Today we look at the WLC 22. Or, Woven Leather Lounge Chair.

Originally designed by Mel Smilow in 1956.

The WLC 22 was originally designed in solid walnut with cow hide leather.

In the '50s and '60s this retailed for as low as $39.95! 🥲 and was sold at the six stores Mel Smilow owned and operated through the '70s.

The woven lounge has a curved wooden frame with arms reaching up. The seat is wrapped in leather webbing and offers a remarkably comfortable support.

Despite being over 65 years old, the WLC 22 is one of our best selling chairs. Through the years we continue to encounter vintage Woven Leather Lounge Chair's passed down through generations.

Enduring. Modern. Classic.

Vintage WLC 22's available on the vintage marketplace
